Physical Therapy
The Physical Therapy (PT) Department conducts physical therapy and motor development sessions to increase and maintain a person's range of motion (ROM), motor skills and developmental positions. This department also conducts monthly clinics with a wheelchair company and orthotic company, as well as quarterly clinics with a physiatrist. During these clinic sessions, an evaluation is conducted regarding the appropriateness of current equipment for every individual. While promoting maximum independence and mechanical mobility for non-ambulatory individuals, the possible need for new equipment is carefully monitored.
The PT Department and the Adaptive Equipment Department work hand in hand to build and maintain positioning equipment, wheelchair repair and orthotic adaptations when needed. Positioning is essential in maintaining physical health, strong bones, muscle strength and ROM training. Lifting and body mechanics, transporting techniques and yearly in-services on updated procedures are provided for all employees to ensure that each individual receives the finest possible care.
