VERLAND'S PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY

Maintaining state-of-the art treatment programs is a dynamic process that requires constant updating and careful monitoring on the part of the Verland staff. To implement effective programming, the real art lies not in acquiring the needed resources, but in applying and manipulating them to reflect the specific needs of each individual. This kind of personalized treatment is at the heart of Verland's training and development effort.

In program planning for each of Verland's individuals, a team process is employed to achieve the most accurate and balanced needs and strengths assessment and strategy. Every person receives an individualized yearly plan which is determined by an interdisicplinary team of professionals. The yearly team determines all goals and procedures, and makes recommendations regarding

  • medical considerations,
  • safety devices,
  • recreational needs and
  • any available supports and choices that can enhance the life of the individual.
These recommendations are then reviewed every three months and refined as necessary by a more immediate oversight team. When needed, the behavior specialist works with a psychologist to create a Positive Approach Plan for those with significant behavioral challenges.
