Adult Training Services

Services designed to increase independence, self-determination, and meaningful relationships

Verland’s Adult Training Facilities provide individually-specific services designed to increase independence, self-determination, and meaningful relationships within the community. The ATFs provide individual goal plans, community participation supports, and various therapies focused on the needs of the person.

The success of the Adult Training Facilities at Verland is measured by the success of the individuals we serve. The ATF provides valuable training through a number of creative means, while helping each participant achieve a more gratifying, healthy, and independent lifestyle. Since 1978, the innovative programs of our Adult Training Facilities have enabled Verland to fulfill its mission to serve persons with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Verland currently has four Adult Training Facilities in the Western Pennsylvania Area. These are located in Allegheny County, Fayette County, Mercer, and Venango Counties.

Located in 4 Counties in Western Pennsylvania

The Sewickley ATF provides services to the residents of our Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) which is located on the same campus. The individuals we work with at the Sewickley site are on the severe and profound end of the IID spectrum, and the ATF staff work closely with the Residential, Nursing, and Habilitation Services departments to provide holistic and integrated programming to best meet our residents’ unique needs on an individual level. This programming includes the incorporation of sensory stimulation and adaptive communication tools; music; art; animal therapy; and environmental and community projects into each resident’s plan of care and recreational life to aid in their ongoing development and encourage positive engagement and citizenship as members of our community.

Allegheny County

The other Allegheny County location is located in Moon Township. This location features a sensory room and a large, open programming area. The Moon Township ATF provides individuals with Community Participation Services that allow for community inclusion. Volunteer opportunities include collecting items for deployed military and making cards for the local VA hospital and nursing homes. Each individual has a plan created for them that focuses on their likes, needs, and goals. This allows for personalized programming to help the person achieve success.

Mercer County

Verland’s Mercer County location is in Sharon. This facility provides daily structured activities to many individuals. The ATF focuses on Community Participation Services. They work to help the individuals become part of the local community and build meaningful relationships. The Mercer ATF provides cooking and horticulture activities, as well as volunteer opportunities, including making treats and having fundraisers for the local animal shelter. Each individual makes the choice as to what they want to focus on, and a plan is developed to help them meet goals.

Fayette County

Our Fayette County location is in Masontown. This lovely facility features a beautiful sensory room that allows for auditory, visual, and tactile stimulation. The CPS services provided at this location allow for individuals to make choices, explore the community, and provides volunteer opportunities.
