Our health & disability services provide around-the-clock primary care, including nursing staff and specialty physician services as needed. This dedicated team is equipped to provide a wide range of treatments, from neurology and ophthalmology to behavioral and dietary support for those with multiple medical conditions.

The success of the Adult Training Facilities (ATFs) at Verland is measured by the success of the individuals we serve. The ATFs provide valuable training through a number of creative means while helping each participant achieve a more gratifying, healthy, and independent lifestyle.

Sewickley

The Sewickley ATF provides services to the residents of our Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) which is located on the same campus. The individuals at the Sewickley site are on the severe and profound end of the IDD (Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities) spectrum, and the ATF staff work closely with the Residential, Nursing, and Habilitation Services departments to provide holistic and integrated programming to best meet our residents’ individual and unique needs. This programming includes the incorporation of sensory stimulation and adaptive communication tools. The tools used include music, art, animal therapy, and environmental and community projects that are integrated into each resident’s plan of care and recreational life. Sensory stimulation ad adaptive communication exercises aid in the resident’s ongoing development by encouraging positive engagement as a member of our community.

Moon Township

This location features a sensory room and a large, open programming area. The Moon Township ATF provides individuals with Community Participation Services that allow for community inclusion. Volunteer opportunities include collecting items for deployed military and making cards for the local VA hospital and nursing homes. Each individual has a plan created for them that focuses on their likes, needs, and goals. This allows for personalized programming to help the person achieve success.

Sharon (Mercer County)

This facility provides daily structured activities to many individuals. The Sharon ATF focuses on Community Participation Services. Verland staff members work to help individuals build meaningful relationships with the local community. The Mercer ATF provides cooking and horticulture activities as well as volunteer opportunities, including making treats and having fundraisers for the local animal shelter. Each individual chooses what they want to focus on, and a plan is developed by the Verland team to help them meet their goals.

Masontown Site (Fayette County)

This lovely facility features a beautiful sensory room that allows for auditory, visual, and tactile stimulation. The Community Participation Services provided at this location allow individuals to make choices, explore the community, and participate in volunteer opportunities.

Verland North (Venango County)

Verland is thrilled to announce the expansion of our community and services into Venango County. As a person-centered non-profit family, we have been approved to build up to four Verland Signature Homes serving Venango, Butler, and Mercer counties.

We provide services for the 25 individuals currently residing throughout this area. We are planning a seamless transition for these residents so that their lives are as uninterrupted as possible. Their soon-to-be new homes will provide them with a place of comfort and familiarity while receiving the necessary therapies, training, and activities to continue living engaging and enriched lives.

While the Signature Homes are being constructed, residents will remain fully cared for at the Polk State facility. Additionally, we hope to hire the skilled and dedicated therapists, direct support professionals, and the medical staff that is already in place at the Polk State Facility.

Community Living Arrangements (CLA) Homes

The CLA consists of 37 homes across multiple counties including persons with mild to moderate IDD. The CLA is designed to support independence and community integration. Served by Verland nursing professionals, we advocate for appropriate care across the coordinated care with the individual, family, and interdisciplinary providers.

CLA homes provide residential care in a familial atmosphere and 24-hour individualized support for each resident’s unique needs in the home. This community-style home promotes independence with the help of high-skilled Direct Support Professionals (DPSs) alongside assistive technology and adaptive equipment to assure the health and safety of each resident.

Palliative Care: The Rose Program

Palliative care is specialized medical care for people living with a serious or life-threatening illness. This type of care is focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of the illness. The goal is to improve the quality of life for both the patient and the family. In partnership with PCMA (Personal Care Medical Associates) Palliative Care Division, Verland’s Rose Program provides an extra layer of medical support, enhancing the high-quality care already provided at Verland. We work closely with clients, families, and their healthcare teams to decrease debilitating symptoms, improve outcomes, and restore quality of life. We have helped many clients and families navigate their illnesses and choices.

Support Our Mission

Verland was established through the love and compassion of its three founders and the generosity of one individual who was inspired to share her good fortune with others by donating the land on which Verland’s Ohio Township campus was built.  Today, your support is needed to continue building community homes, expand the capacity of all facilities, and support our 230+ individuals with loving care.
